Swimming
- Seven miles of the most beautiful beaches in Florida!
Walking
- Don Pedro Island State Recreation Area, is a nature preserve
located in the central portion of Little Gasparilla Island. For
information contact (941) 964-0375 or www.dep.state.fl.us/parks.
Shelling
- as a barrier island you'll be amazed at the quantity and selection
of shells washing up on our shores. Check out our collection of
sharks teeth at the house. You can add finds if you wish but please
don't take what we've collected.
Relaxing
- just sit on the dock and count the mullet jumping in the quiet
of the evening (my favorite).
General
suggestions:
Take a quiet stroll to the "point". This is what we call the southern
most end of the island. It is approximately 1.5 miles of peaceful
beach walking. Shelling is especially good in the spring. If you're
fortunate to walk at low tide, watch for the tidal pools. These
usually contain live shells.
Take a walk to
the Rotunda pavilion. Go north along the beach for about 1 mile.
The shelling is very good, the area is less populated and great
for serious sunbathers.
Read up on Florida
history and folklore in one of the many books we stock at the house.
If the weather
is wet you might want to tackle a board game, puzzle or cards all
of which we provide.
If you really
get island fever and feel you must see cars, pavement and people
spend the day in nearby Boca Grande. A short trip over the causeway
and you are in a quiet, peaceful resort town known for its celebrity
hideaways. There are shops, restaurants and "tourist" places to
visit for that special remembrance. If you make the trip, be sure
to drive to the southern tip of the island and visit the lighthouse.
Early spring and summer you can see the tarpon rolling in the pass
and the assemblage of boats trying to catch them. This area boasts
the "worlds' greatest tarpon fishing"!
Make sure you're
at the beach for sunset! THIS IS AN ISLAND TRADITION!
